THE EXAM
CPT i.e. Common Proficiency Test is the first level of the Chartered Accountancy course.It is an objective type test with Negative marking which will have Multiple Choice Questions.The 200 Marks test has two sessions of two hours each on the same day.A test of two subjects is scheduled in each session respectively
The break-up is as follows :
SESSION 1 : Two Subjects (Total 100 Mks) for 2 Hrs
Section A : Fundamentals of Accounting (60 Marks)
Section B : Mercantile Laws (40 Marks)
SESSION 2 : Two Subjects (Total 100 Mks) for 2 Hrs
Section C : General Economics (50 Marks)
Section D : Quantitative Aptitude (50 Marks)
Examination Form and Fee :
Application forms for June Exam are usually available from the 1st week of April to the last week of April and form for December Exam is available from the 1st week of October to the last week of October.
One can apply for either Paper-pencil mode or the online mode.
Total Fee for the exam is ` 1,000.(Break up given below)
(a) Examination Form Fee is ` 500 which you can avoid if you fill the form online http://icaiexam.icai.org/login.php
(b)Examination Fee is ` 500 (Compulsory)

Passing Criteria in CPT
A student in one- sitting has to secure minimum 30 % marks in each section and a minimum of 50 % in aggregate of all sections for passing CPT exam. CPT has negative marking to the extent of 25% which means for every wrong answer 0.25 Marks will be deducted.
Students securing more than 70 % Marks in aggregate of all sections will be declared "Pass with distinction."
