How and when to Enroll for CA course?



You can REGISTER with The Institute ofChartered Accountants of India for the First level of CA i.e. Common Proficiency Test (CPT) any time after clearing your Xth Standard exams.


However, you can APPEAR for the Common Proficiency Test only after you have appeared for your 10+2 exams (Commerce / Arts or Science doesn't matter if you know you have it in you) 


Please Note: If you wish to DIRECTLY APPEAR for the SECOND LEVEL i.e. Integrated Professional Competence Examination (IPCE) without appearing for CPT, you can do so if you fulfill any ONE of the following conditions: 


1.Commerce Graduate with minimum 55% marks.
2.Non-Commerce Graduate with minimum 60% marks.
3.Cleared CS or CWA Inter.



You can register provisionally during your final year of graduation but you can appear for the exam only after passing your final year of graduation. So while you are provisionally registered for IPCE, you can complete the Orientation Course and IT Training.

WHEN TO REGISTER?
As you know the minimum qualification required in order to register for CPT is clearing your Xth Standard Exams. (It is not compulsory to register immediately after you clear your Xth boards, ideally take some rest... because you will anyway be eligible to appear for the exam only after two years i.e. after appearing for your XIIth standard exam ). 

Please Note: There is NO UPPER AGE LIMIT to register yourself for this course .


LEVEL 1:

CPT is held twice in a year i.e. in June and December respectively.You can register for CPT before the following months :

 1. For June Exam, register before 1st April of that year.

Example : If you want to appear for June 2013 exam, register before 1st April 2013.

2.Similarly, to appear for CPT in December , register before 1st October of that year.

Example : If you want to appear for December 2013 exam, register before 1st October 2013.

2. Fill the Form and submit it to the institute along with the following documents :



  • Demand Draft payable to "The Secretary,The Institute of Chartered Accountants Of India". The fee details are listed below. (Kindly cross check the same from www.icai.org)
  • Attested Copy of Your Birth Certificate.
  • Attested Copy of Your Xth Standard Pass Mark sheet.
  • Attested Copy of Proof of Special Category certificate i.e. SC/ST/OBC etc

CPT Exam , Fees & Syllabus

THE EXAM

CPT i.e. Common Proficiency Test is the first level of the Chartered Accountancy course.It is an objective type test with Negative marking which will have Multiple Choice Questions.The 200 Marks test has two sessions of two hours each on the same day.A test of two subjects is scheduled in each session respectively

The break-up is as follows :

SESSION 1 : Two Subjects (Total 100 Mks) for 2 Hrs

Section A : Fundamentals of Accounting (60 Marks)
Section B : Mercantile Laws (40 Marks)


SESSION 2 : Two Subjects (Total 100 Mks) for 2 Hrs

Section C : General Economics (50 Marks)
Section D : Quantitative Aptitude (50 Marks)


Examination Form and Fee :

Application forms for June Exam are usually available from the 1st week of April to the last week of April and form for December Exam is available from the 1st week of October to the last week of October.

One can apply for either Paper-pencil mode or the online mode.

Total Fee for the exam is ` 1,000.(Break up given below)

Passing Criteria in CPT

A student in one- sitting has to secure  minimum 30 % marks in each section and a minimum of 50 % in aggregate of all sections for passing CPT exam. CPT has negative marking to the extent of 25% which means for every wrong answer 0.25 Marks will be deducted.

Students securing more than 70 % Marks in aggregate of all sections will be declared "Pass with distinction."

Orientation Programme & ITT

The Orientation Programme

The Orientation Programme is a compulsory course by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India for the candidates registered for :

1. Accounting Technician Course; which is an eligibility criteria to appear for Accounting Technician Examination (ATE)
2. Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC) before registering for articled 
training 

The Programme consists of lectures, case studies,presentations,group discussions etc.

How to Register

1.Collect form from the nearest branch of ICAI or fill online form from the respective regional website (WIRC,NIRC,EIRC,CIRC etc.)

2.Make a Demand Draft of ` 3,000 payable to "WIRC/CIRC/NIRC/EIRC/SIRC(whichever is applicable to you) of the ICAI" 

3.Submit the filled form and the demand draft along with the following :

  • One Passport Size photo
  • Copy of your CPT Mark sheet
  • Copy of registration letter of IPCC
You can select the batch which is suitable to you from the list of batches available.


Duration of the Programme

The Orientation Programme is held for 5 Days of 7 hours each(35 Hours).
There are four sessions every day . Each session is of 1 hour 45 Minutes.



Information Technology Training

ITT is a part of the scheme of education and training for the Chartered Accountancy Course.Thus, it is mandatory for a CA student to pursue the 100 hrs IT Training from any of the ITT centers established at Regional Offices/ branches and Chapters of ICAI

Eligibility for the Training Programme

(any ONE of the following)
  • Students who are registered for IPCC.
  • Students who have registered for the erstwhile Intermediate Course and completed  their articled training and then converted to IPCC.
  • Students who have registered for erstwhile Intermediate Course and then appeared in Professional Education (Examination – II) and then converted to IPCC.
  • Students who have initially registered for the Professional Education (Course – II) and then switched over / switching over to IPCC.
  • Students who have initially registered for the Professional Education (Course – II) and then switched over to Professional Competence Course (PCC) and then to IPCC.
  • Students  who have registered initially for PCC and then switched over to IPCC.


How to Register

1. Collect form from the nearest branch of ICAI or fill online form from the respective regional website (WIRC,NIRC,EIRC,CIRC etc.)

2. Make a Demand Draft of ` 4,000 favouring "Information Technology Centre_____Branch,ICAI"


3.No other documents except filled in form / Print Acknowledgment Slip & Demand Draft / Pay Order are required.

You can select the batch which is suitable to you from the list of batches available.


Duration of the Training

The fresh batches shall start in the first week of each month. Students are required to undergo 100 Hours ITT with the accredited branch. The Branches can follow a teaching module of 3-5 hours per day, covering 100 hours in maximum 40 days including Sundays. The Board of Studies can change this training plan.
A student should not appear for the final online examination before he/she completes the minimum training period prescribed in the training programme.



Module Tests

There are two module tests.Each module test shall be of 50 marks. The module test may comprise of objective type questions as well as short questions. The duration of the module test will be one hour. Evaluation of the module test is to be done  by  the  centre  faculty.  A  student  is required  to  pass  both modules  tests  by  securing  at  least  50% marks in individual test. In case a student fails to do so, one reappearance for each test may be allowed free of cost. For any additional reappearance, the student is required to pay a nominal fee of Rs. 150/- per test.







Registration Details of IPCC

Who can Register for IPCC?

Fulfil any ONE of the following conditions and you are ready to roll :
  • Anybody who has passed  Common Proficiency Test and Senior Secondary Examination (10+2 examination) conducted by an examining body constituted by law in India or an examination recognized by the Central Government as equivalent thereto may join the Integrated Professional Competence Course.
  • A student who has already passed Entrance Exam or Foundation Examination or Professional Education (Examination-I) shall be eligible for enrolment to Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC) subject to complying with relevant conditions*
  • A candidate who was already registered for erstwhile Intermediate Examination or of Professional Education (Course-II) or Professional Competence Examination cum articleship shall be eligible for enrolment/conversion to Integrated Professional Competence Course subject to complying with relevant conditions.
  • Commerce Graduate with minimum 55% marks.
  • Non-Commerce Graduate with minimum 60% marks.
  • Cleared CS or CWA Inter.
How to register

  • On receipt of filled-in form and the requisite fee, the concerned decentralized office will issue study materials for Group I and/or Group II or IPCC/ATC.
  • The decentralized office will also issue registration letter. While taking admission to 100 hours ITT and Orientation Programme with regional/branch office, a student is required to produce a copy of the registration letter.
  • Submit the following along with the registration form :

             1) Demand Draft/Pay Order towards IPCC registration fee.
             2) Attested copy of 12th pass or its equivalent Central Government recognised
                 examination pass marks statement (refer Annexure VIII).
             3) Copy of CPT Pass marks statement (students are advised not to wait for CPT
                 marks statement to be received from Examination division for registration to
                 IPCC but proceed for IPCC registration with a copy of downloaded CPT marks
                 statement. As soon as the original CPT marks statement is received,an attested
                 copy of the same is to be submitted to the nearest regional office.

 * Articled training starts only after passing Group I of  IPCC. If you wish to pay the fees for Articleship along with IPCC , you need to add ` 2,000 to the registration fee given above.However, you also have the option to pay the same along with CA Final Registration.

Eligibility 

In Order to register yourself for CA Final , you must

  • Clear Group 1 and Group 2 of IPCC
  • Successfully Complete Orientation Training and IT Training
